Sales of Digital Media Players thumps sales
of Blu-ray Players in growth in the US. In The first half of 2009 the sales of Digital media players that can play digital video files overtook the sales of physical disc Blu-Ray players. Numbers from Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) showed that 2 million stand alone Blu-ray players were sold 1H209. However sales of Digital media player such as WD TV Live, amounted to 1 million sold players in the US alone. Again we are seeing the shift from physical disc player to non physical disc players, in the way that consumers are opting for the powerful and more versatile digital media players over the old physical disc players. When this trend continues, we expect to see digital media players overtake in total units and growth within the next 6 months. Looking ahead in two years we expect the total number of sold digital media player compared to blu-ray to factor 2:1. When Q3 results from Realtek and Sigma Designs come out in end November we can cant a better data picture on the sales and growth or the Media Player market. |
