Connected TV’s causing convergence in Consumer Electronics, IT and Broadcast

According to the NPD group, a US-based Market Research firm, household are increasingly adopting connected TV’s and using them for online video services in both paid and free video. For the 10% of total US households owning an connected TV, they see a decline in the usage of streaming media players, video game consoles, PC's and Blu-ray Disc players. This amount to about 20% of the households that own a connected TV.

From these numbers we can see several trends in of convergence in the  IT, Consumer electronics and media distribution industries.
