5 Challanges for Android to work on Digital Media Players

According to an MIPS presentation on Android as a OS for future Digital  Media Players, some key challenges need to be overcome, before Android can be used as a platform, for these devices.

Open Embedded Software Foundation will release Blueberry Cupcake in November 2009  where some of these challanges will be adressed.

 

True multi-tasking

Current Android software will kill applications when resources are needed

Unacceptable in digital home applications

 

Support HD video

Current Android only supports 320 x 480 video

 

Multi-channel audio

Current Android only supports stereo/mono

 

Support for HW 2D/3D accelerated graphics

No standard way to support graphics acceleration

 

Support for HW accelerated video/audio

No standard way to support HW video/audio decoders
